Richard believes in the power of bringing community together to create solutions. At GPG, he provides leadership to projects and brings expertise in project management, facilitation, interest holder engagement, strategic planning, policy analysis, and communications. Key GPG projects include:

  • Development of a strategic plan and ongoing implementation support for Count Play Explore (formerly known as the California Statewide Early Math Initiative)
  • Project leadership and development of the Student Behavioral Health Incentives Program Needs Assessment for the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools
  • Development of multi-year strategic plan for California Afterschool Advocacy Alliance
  • Design and facilitation support of annual budget study sessions for First 5 California

Prior to GPG, Richard led and consulted on community organizing initiatives to achieve meaningful impact in over 20 urban and rural communities. Richard started his career as an elementary school teacher at district-run schools and then as an education advocacy nonprofit leader in Oakland and Richmond, California.

Richard is a native Angeleno, son of Mexican immigrant parents, an Upward Bound Program alumnus, and first-generation college graduate.

Outside of work, Richard enjoys quality time with family and friends, outdoor activities and music events, and travel.
