Department of Justice Awards $573,395 to Richmond to Expand ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System

The City of Richmond has been informed that it will receive a $573,395 Stimulus grant from Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) at the Department of Justice to expand the area covered by the ShotSpotter gunshot location system by an additional 2.4 square miles. ShotSpotter is currently deployed in 45 cities and counties nationwide, with reported decreases in gunfire incidents of 50 to 80 percent in those communities. The existing system in Richmond has received local press coverage for its role in helping Richmond Police locate and respond to gun crimes in the city. The Glen Price Group played a key role in the preparation of this grant proposal.
