The City of Richmond Police Department has been selected to receive a COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) grant award for the hiring of 8 officer positions. Part of the Federal Stimulus Package, this award of over $3.8 Million will cover salaries and benefit costs for retained, re-hired, or newly hired officers for a three year period. The Richmond Police Department will utilize this funding to improve community policing efforts to accelerate decreasing crime rates and build meaningful neighborhood relationships
The COPS Hiring Recovery Program increases community policing capacity and crime-prevention efforts by providing funding directly to state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies for the creation and preservation of law enforcement officer jobs.
