City of Richmond Youthbuild Receives Up To $1.1M in new Funding
Saturday, June 20th, 2009
This grant represents part of approximately $114 million in funding to 183 community groups to provide education and training to young people across the United States. The awards include approximately $47 million allocated to the YouthBuild program under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Richmond’s YouthBuild programs provide job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth. Program participants, ages 16- 24, help construct and rehabilitate affordable housing in their own neighborhoods. Youth participating in Richmond’s YouthBuild program split their time between the construction site and the classroom, where they earn their GED or high school diploma and prepare for college and other postsecondary training opportunities. YouthBuild includes significant support systems, such as mentoring, follow-up education, employment, and personal counseling services; and participation in community service and civic engagement. The Glen Price Group was proud to be a part of the proposal development effort that resulted in this grant support.
