County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors Unanimously Endorse Creation of Family Justice Center

On October 21, 2008, a broad group of County of Sonoma stakeholders including law enforcement, county agencies, and community-based organizations presented the results of a feasibility study that looked at the viability of a Family Justice Center to the County Board of Supervisors. Their recommendations, which included moving forward with the necessary strategic planning to establish the Family Justice Center, were unanimously approved by the board. Supervisor Mike Reilly noted, “The coordinated approach advocated by the Family Justice Center concept is the way of the future.” The Glen Price Group was proud to have assisted with the development of the feasibility study and looks forward to great things from the Sonoma County Family Justice Center! Free Health Clinic Opens in Oakland

Free health services are now available to anyone who lacks health insurance at the Order of Malta Oakland Clinic, located in downtown Oakland, in the complex of The Cathedral of Christ the Light.
Funded entirely by private donations, the Clinic is operated by The Order of Malta Oakland Clinic, Inc. The Glen Price Group is honored to be working with the OOM Oakland Clinic Board, assisting them with fund raising in support of this urgently needed medical Clinic.

Richmond Receives Safe Routes to School Funding

The City of Richmond learned last week that it was the recipient of a $477,000 award from Caltrans through the Federal Safe Routes to School grant program. The grant award will provide for construction of a new section of paved sidewalk/bike trail to connect the Nystrom school grounds and Martin Luther King Community Center with the Richmond Greenway, the Class III Bicycle trail that traverses the city of Richmond from east to west. This new connector will significantly increase bicycle safety by enabling students to avoid travelling on busy Harbor Way to reach the school from the Greenway. Receipt of these funds is particularly exciting for the City in that they provide additional resources to the comprehensive community renewal project currently underway in the Nystrom Neighborhood area. The Glen Price Group was pleased to have the opportunity to assist in the development of the Safe Routes to School proposal.

Alameda County Family Justice Center Demonstrates New Mandatory Reporting Technology

On Wednesday, October 1st, the Alameda County Family Justice Center held a showcase/reception for its new Domestic Violence Reporting and Referral (DVRR) system, an innovative approach towards using web-based technology to better meet the needs of domestic violence survivors. Currently, California state law requires health care providers to report patients who are victims of domestic violence, but the current system is problematic. Emergency rooms and medical providers lack a standardized domestic violence reporting form and don’t know whether there will be help available for victims when they do fill out their form and make a report.
“The DVRR will simplify domestic violence reporting for Alameda County health care providers,” said Hillary Larkin, SART Medical Director, Department of Emergency Medicine, Alameda County Medical Center, “it allows every health care provider to easily refer victims for comprehensive services, regardless of where or when the patient presents for care.”
DVRR gives medical providers a convenient web-based tool to make a police report and simultaneously refer a victim to the Alameda County Family Justice Center (ACFJC) for services and support. See the DVRR press release.
