June 2007

It has been a busy and successful last few weeks for the Glen Price Group as we continue to support our wonderful clients with their strategic planning, fund development, and facilitation needs.

Over $9.7 Million in new grants have recently been awarded to GPG Clients! Several major funding announcements have brought glad tidings for Glen Price Group (GPG) clients.

GPG has a longstanding relationship with the Bay Area Partnership for Children and Youth (BAP), a coalition of elected representatives, philanthropists, and other stakeholders in the San Francisco Bay area that are collaborating to improve conditions for low-income children, youth, and their families. A key area of focus for BAP has been the development of after school programs and, over the last five years, GPG has worked with BAP to assist school districts, local government, and community-based organizations to secure long-term financial support to develop and implement after school programs in BAP’s strategic focus communities.

In 2007, as the state of California was readying release of its 21st Century Community Learning Center Request for Proposals, the Bay Area Partnership asked GPG to assist with a broad effort to assist San Francisco Bay Area applicants with successfully developing strong programs, forming collaborative partnerships, and writing winning grant applications. Working together with the BAP, GPG facilitated an applicant workshop attended by over 100 participants, worked with two school districts and their partners to develop grant proposals, and reviewed several applications in advanced stages of development.

Applications developed by the Glen Price Group for the Vallejo City Unified School District and the Emery Unified School District were both funded, bringing the two school districts and their partners $3.5 million in funding over the five years of the program.

GPG also worked with the West Contra Costa Unified School District to develop and submit a successful 21st Century Community Learning Center proposal to establish after school programs at 11 elementary schools, raising $5.8 million for the district and its partners over a five-year period.

Other recent grant successes include:

  • A new grant for the City of Richmond’s Police Department to develop a comprehensive plan to address issues of crime related to problem alcohol beverage establishments in the City of Richmond;
  • New funding for Rockridge Partners and Solano Community College to expand the California Insurance Careers Program; and
  • Funding renewal for the Berkeley-Albany YMCA from First 5 Alameda County to continue its innovative programs for special needs children and their parents.

Strategic Planning and Facilitation
GPG has also been busy helping clients build effective teams, and creating strong strategic plans.

In late May, GPG worked with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Banda Aceh, Indonesia as FAO continues its project to restore and rehabilitate the region’s fisheries, which were devastated by the December 2004 tsunami. GPG’s latest work involved developing and facilitating a “wrap-up” workshop for the inception phase of the project, where a broad range of stakeholders engaged in intensive dialogue to frame the project’s design. At the workshop, over 100 participants representing funders, government, communities, and non-governmental organizations came together to review the project’s plans and prepare for its forthcoming implementation.

In early June, GPG facilitated a strategy retreat for the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Humanitarian Partnerships group. Working closely with the American Red Cross, WWF seeks to assist international relief and recovery efforts to minimize the environmental damage resulting from disaster recovery, and maximize creation of strong, sustainable communities.

Later in June, GPG continued its work with the International Services Division of the American Red Cross, facilitating meetings and assisting with the development of ISD’s new strategic plan.
