YES! It is official… Congratulations to the International Institute of the East Bay and the International Institute of San Francisco who have now merged to form the International Institute of the Bay Area. Since the early 20th century, both of these organizations have been invaluable resources for immigrants seeking a better life for themselves and their children in the United States — working from different sides of the San Francisco Bay. During their long histories, serious merger discussions occurred several times in order to build an organization that would have regional scale. Each time, the efforts failed. In 2006, the Glen Price Group started a strategic planning process with the International Institute of the East Bay which eventually led the board to propose merger discussions with the International Institute of San Francisco. Following significant discussion and study, diligent efforts by staff and board members from both sides, and excellent legal counsel, the merger was completed in May 2007.
