The YMCA’s Urban Services Branch just received a tremendous boost to its efforts to serve teens in the City of Oakland with the announcement of a 5-year, $1 million grant from the CA Department of Health Services, Office of Family Planning, Community Challenge Grant Program. The competitive grant was made to YMCA FutureChoice, an innovative YMCA Youth Development program. Members of the Glen Price Group have been involved in seeking resources for YMCA FutureChoice since its inception in 1996 and have helped to raise over $2 million for the program. This latest investment by the Department of Health Services provides the YMCA with a five-year commitment to the program enabling the basis for long-term planning and growth in services to populations in critical need.
The new year celebrations continue for GPG clients as the California Department of Education announced on January 14, 2005 that East Palo Alto High School (EPAHS) was one of 17 statewide recipients of a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant! The proposal was submitted by the East Palo Alto Teen After School Alliance (TASA), a collaborative partnership that includes East Palo Alto High School (an Aspire Public Schools Charter School), Opportunities Industrialization Center West, the City of East Palo Alto, and Student Racing Partners. The Bay Area Partnership, one of the region’s leading advocates, developers, and technical assistance providers helped to convene all of the partners and sponsor development of the proposal in conjunction with the County of San Mateo.
